Childhood obesity can have a harmful effect on the body in a variety of ways. Our goal is to work with children who have weight management issues and face a future of lifelong medical problems if excess weight is left untreated. The focus of the program will be weight control and management. With the help of a team of professionals - a pediatric endocrinologist, pediatrician, dietitian and educator - and through coordination with a variety of exercise facilities, we will teach children and their families how to achieve and maintain healthy lifestyle changes.
Children and teens may be referred by Primary Providers.
Initially, your child will be scheduled to visit with one of our physicians for a comprehensive assessment. This assessment will include a physical exam and appropriate lab tests. Children will be screened for high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, family history of type 2 diabetes and other underlying medical problems. Following this assessment, the team will work with your child through behavior modification, nutrition education, physical activity and continuous medical monitoring by the program’s pediatrician. Family involvement is vital for your child’s success in this program. In order to achieve lasting results for your child, you will need to incorporate the lifestyle changes you learn into your family.
