Frank J Lodeserto MD joined Cape Fear Valley Medical Center as the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director in May 2022. He is one of only a handful of combined Adult & Pediatric Critical Care Trained Physicians practicing both specialties nationally. He did his combined Med-Peds training at East Carolina University/Brody School of Medicine (Greenville NC) before going onto to complete both his Adult & Pediatric Critical Care fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center & The Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He is passionate about medical education and beyond his frequent didactic teaching at the bedside and in the classroom; he spends a significant portion of his time educating our residents with High Fidelity Simulation. He also frequently publishes high quality adult & pediatric articles through Free Open Access Medical Education (FOAMed) where he serves as an Associate Editor & Author for www.rebelem.com. Dr. Lodeserto is heavily involved in the mentorship of our current residents, helping them reach their full academic & professional potential. The most important things are his faith & family. He also loves spending time with his beautiful wife Michelle, a certified Child Life Specialist and his daughters Natalia & Theadora as well as his son Josiah. He is heavily involved in the Fayetteville community and serves as the Head Coach of the Boys and Girls Wrestling teams at Freedom Christian Academy. He also owns and coaches a youth wrestling club for all ages, The Buffalo Valley Wrestling Club (www.buffalovalleywc.me). He also finds the time to serve as a youth football coach for travel team here in Fayetteville (www.ptebulldogs.com). His hobbies include reading, listening to a variety of podcasts, and doing cardio and weight training. Dr. Lodeserto also loves cheering on the “Maize & Blue” as a former graduate, captain, & All-American wrestler for the University of Michigan.

Dr. Chika Okafor is the Associate Program Director for the Internal Residency Program. She joined Cape Fear Valley Health System in November of 2008 as fulltime hospitalist. She is also Assistant Professor of Medicine at Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic of Medicine. Dr. Okafor earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Southern University at New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2005 and completed her residency training at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Okafor is board certified in Internal medicine. She has served in various hospital committees including Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Clinical Performance Improvement Committee and Institutional Review Board. Dr Okafor is married and lives in Fayetteville with her husband and their three children. She enjoys traveling with her family during her spare time.


Dr. Amro Ilaiwy, MD

Dr. Ilaiwy is the associate program director of the internal medicine residency program. He is a physician-scientist with an interest in translational research, medical education, endocrinology, and public administration. Dr. Ilaiwy joined the Cape Fear GME family in 2021. He earned both his bachelor's and medical degree at the University of Damascus, Syria. Afterward, he moved to the United States to pursue translational research training at the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute. He completed his internal medicine residency training at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He also completed his fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at Duke University in Durham, NC, and is currently a candidate for Master of Public Administration at UNC School of Government. Dr. Ilaiwy has authored many papers, served as a peer reviewer for many medical journals, and was successfully awarded the Endocrine Fellow Foundation grant in 2020. Outside of work, he enjoys jogging, cooking, and latte art.

Dr. Mayank Singhal is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Campbell University and Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He also serves as Medical Director, Advance Stroke Program and Internal Medicine Clerkship Director. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency from University of North Dakota and is board certified in Internal Medicine. Besides teaching Residents and Students, he is interested in clinical research. Many of his mentored projects have won awards and led to publications. Dr. Singhal is a member of Sigma Xi, the scientific research honor society. He is also active as a reviewer for scholarly articles and a member of editorial boards for several journals. Dr. Singhal has been invited as a judge in multiple conferences including the Society of Hospital Medicine and American College of Physicians.

Ms. Morrison has been the Program Administrator for the Cape Fear Valley Department of Graduate Medical Education since the start of the GME programs at the institution. She is a native of Fayetteville NC. She has been with Cape Fear Valley Medical Center since 2011. She was a student at Fayetteville State University. She enjoys spending time with her son and family.

Valentina is the Internal Medicine, Nurse Practioner, and Physician Assistant program administrator. Valentina comes from a multicultural background and has lived in the area for over 10 years. She got her bachelors from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (Go Spartans!). She enjoys traveling, visiting museums, and helping others.
