Dr. Paul Kleinschmidt is the Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. He joined Cape Fear Valley in May of 2015 and currently is a full time clinical faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Kleinschmidt is an Associate Professor for the Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine and Methodist University.

Dr. Kleinschmidt earned a bachelor's degree in Biology from Texas Christian University in 1989 and is a graduate of The University of Texas Medical Branch where he earned his Doctorate of Medicine in 1993. He completed his Emergency Medicine Resident Training at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium in 1997. During the last year of his residency he served as the Chief Resident and then stayed as core faculty from 1997 to 1999. In 1999 Dr. Kleinschmidt came to the Fayetteville area with the military and served with a special operations unit until 2003, when he left the service. He served as a faculty member for the Family Medicine Residency Program at Womack Army Medical Center. He was also a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, Emergency Department Education Coordinator, and the institutional director of Continuing Medical Education for Womack prior to joining to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Dr. Kleinschmidt is a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. He also serves as faculty member for the oral board review course taught by AAEM.

Dr. Kleinschmidt is married to his wife, Kimberly who has been a director of nursing for multiple facilities. They have two children, Kory and Bailey.

Dr. Anthony (Tony) Grello is the Associate Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center (CFVMC). He is also an Assistant Professor for Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine at Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM) and Assistant Professor and Clinical Faculty Member for the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM).

He earned his Bachelor of Sciences in Biology with an emphasis in Chemistry at Gannon University in 1993. He went on to earn a Master of Arts in Medical Sciences at Boston University in 1994. He then earned his Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2000.

After graduating, Dr. Grello completed a dual residency in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine (currently Rowan University) where he was named Intern of the Year, Resident of the Year, and served as Chief Resident in both programs in his final year. He was also awarded the Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award by the American College of Osteopathic Internist in 2005. He graduated residency from UMDNJ-SOM in 2005 at which time he moved to Fayetteville to begin his career in the Emergency Department at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.

In 2010, he was asked to join the administrative team for the Department of Emergency Medicine at CFVMC as the Associate Director for Performance Improvement. During his time in this position, he was resolute in his task of improving the quality of care delivered. He was the founder and Chairman of the Emergency Department Performance Improvement Committee and a member of the Clinical Performance Improvement Committee for the hospital. He served as Champion for the Pneumonia Quality Committee, leading the facility to disease-specific certification and top performer status for its pneumonia care. As a member of the Cardiac Quality Council, he was deeply involved in the Chest Pain and AMI programs for which Cape Fear has been awarded top performer status. He also served as Co-Champion for the Sepsis Committee, again achieving disease-specific certification.

These are exciting times for Cape Fear Valley and CUSOM, and Dr. Grello looks forward with excitement to the opportunity of training and retaining quality physicians to the Cape Fear region.

He is happily married to his wife, Meredith, and they are blessed with three children, Mikey, Emma, and Jake.
