Recreation Therapy

Purpose

The Recreational Therapy Department provides individual, group, and diversional activities to promote independence with leisure interests and skills. Provides recreational resources and opportunities in order to improve health and well-being.

Recreational Therapy

Recreational Therapists perform professional work requiring knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices, and the use of various interventions.

  • Increase strength and coordination
  • Improve self-esteem and social skills

Recreational therapists also assist in coordinating community re-entry outing, participates in adaptive sports, provides ramp guidelines/information, loans adaptive equipment and can provide TV/DVD combo for your room. The Recreational Therapy Department can also assist patients in obtaining temporary or permanent handicap applications with physician’s approval.

Recreational Therapy Department also has a room available daily for patients needing diversional activities when not participating in scheduled therapies.

Staff

Within the rehabilitation center, there are currently four Recreational Therapist, all of which are licensed by the state of North Carolina and nationally certified through NCTRC. Of the four licensed therapists, one is a certified Aquatic Therapist.
