PGY1 Ambulatory Care Elective Focus

Current Residents

Faatihah Meunier, PharmD
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy

I was born in Worcester, MA and raised in the lovely state of Georgia. I completed my undergraduate education at Valdosta State University and obtained my Doctor of Pharmacy from Virginia Commonwealth University. My areas of interest are ambulatory care, population health, and global health.

I pursued a career in pharmacy because of my passion to improve medication access. My ambulatory care advanced pharmacy practice experiences provided ample opportunities to serve indigent populations to minimize health disparities, build long-standing relationships, and accomplish significant clinical impacts through the interdisciplinary practice settings. Beyond the welcoming environment presented during my interview, I was drawn to Cape Fear Valley's unique learning experiences at the Cumberland County Public Health Department, CARE Clinic, and Better Health Clinic. I am ecstatic to implement value-based care at the pharmacist-managed clinics at Senior Health Services and Fayetteville Family Medical to expand upon my entry-level competency to be a progressive leader in the profession.

Brynna Corley, PharmD
Purdue University College of Pharmacy

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, which is about ten minutes from the house I lived in my whole life in Floyds Knobs, Indiana. I attended Purdue University for undergrad and graduate school. I graduated with my PharmD from Purdue University College of Pharmacy in 2023.

I was set on pharmacy since seventh grade. I fell in love with it during a science project where I had to select a science related career. I fortunately stumbled upon pharmacy on the last minute. From there as I took organic in high school and began shadowing, I knew pharmacy was the career meant for me. It's the science, math, and helping others that attracted me to pharmacy. It encompasses so many things that I enjoy.

This program at Cape Fear Valley stuck out to me for several reasons. First being the family atmosphere described by the past residents. Moving to a brand new state where I have no family, having a positive relationship with my coworkers was crucial to me. Secondly, I liked the fact that I still had the opportunity to take inpatient electives to ensure all of my interest were explored. I also think this program has many unique opportunities including volunteering at the Care Clinic and working with the health department to help uninsured/underinsured patients.

This year I have two things I want to accomplish. I want to first become confident in all aspects of pharmacy practice, including my drug knowledge, prescriber communications, and patient interactions. Secondly, I want to solidify which area of ambulatory care I enjoy the most and then begin looking for the steps to begin working toward a career in that clinic. I also am looking forward to making lasting connections with my co-residents and coworkers.
