Orientation Information

Please report to the Ellison Auditorium located on the first floor of the Center for Medical Education. Follow the signs marked "New Employee Orientation" and park in the blocked off lot as marked on map and arrive early to allow ample time to secure a parking spot.

Important information for your orientation:

  • Please arrive no later than 7:15 a.m. on the first day of orientation and as instructed for the following day(s). Each day will end at approximately 5:00 p.m.
  • After lunch new hires will either go to their department or be directed to a computer training location for Epic training. Some of the Epic training locations are not on the main campus where orientation is held. Thus, you will need transportation to a satellite location by 1 p.m.
  • RNs, LPNs, ED Paramedics, and Medical Assistants in the ED and Express Care are required to attend Nursing Core Orientation (NCO) after completing New Employee Orientation (NEO) on Monday and Epic training on Tuesday. NCO is Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Week 1 and Monday thru Friday of Week 2. You will receive an NCO schedule during NEO on day one.

Who needs Nursing Core Orientation (NCO)?


All Full time and Part time RNs, LPNs (Non-Clinic), ED Paramedics, and ED/Express Care RMA/CMAs are to attend the full 2-week orientation. 

All Full time and Part time NA I, NAII, BHTs, Nurse Externs and MHS nursing support staff are to attend week 1 Wednesday and Friday of NCO only.

What is Nursing Core Orientation (NCO)?


Nursing Core Orientation is a vital part of your onboarding process as a new employee at Cape Fear Valley Health System. During this orientation our staff will introduce you to the CFV mission, values, expectations, and standards for all employees within our facility.

Where is Nursing Core Orientation held?


Report to the Cape Fear Valley Main Rehab Auditorium, Conference rooms B,C,E, located at the back of campus off John Carlisle Lane. Park in the designated areas as marked on the map.

What is the schedule for Nursing Core Orientation?


On your arrival to campus park in the designated employee parking areas as marked on map and arrive early to allow ample time to secure a parking spot and sign if for the day.

Each day of NCO begins promptly at 8 a.m. and will end at approximately 4 p.m.

Be advised that these are the standard tentative schedules for Nursing Core Orientation and that changes may occur based upon presenter availability, inclement weather, or holidays.

What is the dress code for Nursing Core Orientation?

 

  • Wear your hospital ID badge to class. 
  • Employees are expected to adhere to the hospital’s dress code. 
  • Wear scrubs or business casual attire. 
    • Approved scrub colors for Nursing are Royal Blue or White
    • Approved scrub colors for Nursing Support are Gray or Maroon
  • Cover any face or neck tattoos and remove any facial piercings.

EPIC FAQs

What is Epic? 


Epic is the Electronic Health Record used by Cape Fear Valley Health for documentation of patient care, billing, registration, bed planning, and numerous other uses.

Will I be required to attend Epic training to start my job? 


All employees working in all patient care and/or patient care areas, registration, billing, etc. will require training to access Epic. Additional details will be provided on Day One.

Where will training be held? 


Training will take place in several areas depending on your job role such as in your department/unit, CFV main campus or one of our offsite locations in Fayetteville.

Will transportation be provided for offsite training (training not at Cape Fear Valley's main campus)? 


While you are encouraged to arrange for your own transportation, we can provide transportation on New Employee Orientation Day One to any training location not at CFV main campus for anyone without transportation. Transportation will not be provided from that location back to CFV Main Campus. No transportation will be provided on Day Two. If you need transportation to an off-site location you will have the opportunity to let the orientation team know during orientation. 

How many days will I have to attend Epic training


Epic training typically lasts 1–2 days, depending on your job role.

What are the hours of training? 


Training will be held between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The duration of the training will vary depending on your job role.

When will I receive my Epic training schedule? 


Your Epic training schedule will be provided on NEO Day One.

Will I be paid for the hours/days I'm attending training? 


Yes, you will be paid for all Epic training hours.

Who should I contact if I need assistance, or have an issue, the day of training?


Contact the manager or educator for your department/unit.

Will breakfast/lunch be served? 


No, breakfast will not be served. You will be allowed to have a 30-minute meal break on Day Two if Epic training lasts longer than 5 hours.

What is the dress code? 


You may wear scrubs or casual business attire for all training classes. Room temperatures may vary, so it is recommended that you bring a sweater/light jacket.
