- Cape Fear Valley Health has ended the temporary furlough of staff that began on March 29 with the closures of non-essential surgeries, procedures, and diagnostic testing due to COVID-19. The total number of employees furloughed was 783.
The closures allowed the health system to protect patients and employees and focus care on those who need it most.
To ensure full-time employees covered by the health system’s health plan would not lose their health insurance benefits, the health system paid the full premium cost during the furlough. This included family coverage if elected at annual benefit enrollment.
With the resumption of surgeries, imaging tests and other non-emergent procedures, the volumes are back. Over the past months 721 furloughed employees have been called back to work. HealthPlex employees will return when Governor Cooper reopens fitness centers.
Twenty-eight full-time and 33 part-time furloughed employees will not be returning. They will be offered priority placement within the health system, severance pay based on their length of employment, and comprehensive outplacement services.
