Long Term Acute Care

Highsmith Rainey-Specialty Hospital is a 66-bed long-term acute care hospital that specializes in the treatment of critically ill and medically complex patients that require extensive clinical management. Patients range in age from 18 to 95 and have an expected length of stay of 25 days or longer. Typical diagnoses include multi-system organ failure, end-stage renal disease, COPD, wound infections, osteomyelitis, complications of diabetes, pneumonia and respiratory failure.

The 3rd and 4th floor nursing units provide nursing care to a diverse patient population. These patients have serious medical conditions, both acute and chronic, that require the nurse to be proficient in wound care therapies, cardiac monitoring, titration of critical drips that include vasopressors, heparin and Lasix, tracheostomy care and ventilator weaning, familiar with a variety of isolation precautions and infectious disease processes and assisting the physician with bedside procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopies and chest tube insertions.

Our eight-bed Intensive Care Unit provides care for the critically ill patient that is hemodynamically unstable. The nurse must be proficient in the titration of multiple critical drips, invasive hemodynamic monitoring (Swan-Ganz, arterial lines), ventilator weaning, tracheostomy care, isolation precautions and infectious disease processes, and assisting the physician with bedside procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopies and chest tube insertions.

Candidates: If you are a nurse who understands that the mind and body must be cared for as well as receiving the medication to heal, who loves to spend quality time with your patients, participate in problem solving using a multi-disciplinary approach and understands the importance of making patients feel comfortable, safe and secure in their hospital environment then Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital is the place for you!
