Cape Fear Valley To Offer Free School Physicals At Umoja Festival

8/9/2018

FAYETTEVILLE – Cape Fear Valley Health is partnering with Cumberland County Schools, Southern Regional Area Health Education Center and the Cumberland County Department of Public Health to provide free school health assessments and sports physicals at this year’s Umoja Festival.

Each year, county schools dismiss students for not having required health assessments within the first 30 days of the school year. The partnership’s goal is to prevent lost instructional time for such students.

The assessments and physicals will be conducted at Cape Fear Valley’s annual health fair on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Smith Recreation Center at Seabrook Park. The center is located at 1520 Slater Ave., near Fayetteville State University.

Vouchers for no-cost and low-cost immunizations will also be offered. Students should bring their current immunization record.

Adult screenings, such as blood pressure, atrial fibrillation and blood sugar levels, will also be offered at the health fair.

The Umoja Festival, now in its 26th year, is an annual African American family festival. It promotes both unity and education about African American history and culture.

This is the 10th year Cape Fear Valley Health has partnered with the Umoja Festival to bring a health fair to the event.
