RAEFORD - Cape Fear Valley
Hoke Hospital has earned Disease-Specific Care Certification as an Acute Stroke
Ready Hospital from The Joint Commission and the American Heart
Association/American Stroke Association.
The certification is for two
years. It recognizes hospitals equipped to treat stroke patients with timely,
evidence-based care prior to transferring them to a primary or comprehensive
stroke center.
Hoke Hospital underwent a
rigorous onsite review to assess The Joint Commission's Disease-Specific Care
certification requirements. They include a dedicated stroke-focused program,
staffing by qualified medical professionals trained in stroke care, and the
ability to rapidly diagnose, test and treat stroke patients.
The certification benefits
patients because early medical interventions can help reduce brain damage
caused by stroke. Faster treatment times also improves the recovery process.
Stroke is the fifth-leading
cause of death and leading cause of adult disability in the U.S. On average,
someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds. Someone dies every four minutes. And
nearly 800,000 people suffer a new or another stroke every year.
