The Harnett Health Transitional Year Program follows the Internal Medicine residency program didactics schedule, which provides high-quality teaching to solidify the foundation of medicine and augment medical knowledge obtained from clinical training. Should they be more interested in the Family Medicine didactics, they can participate in the Family Medicine didactics. Our educational program consists of:
Morning Report
Morning report is held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Betsy Johnson Hospital and Central Harnett Hospital, and all three programs participate. Morning report is a resident-led interactive case to teach clinical pearls and medical decision-making.

Friday Afternoon Didactics
Friday afternoon didactics are protected time for learning. Residents have no clinical duties during didactics. IM Leadership faculty attend didactics to model the importance of lifelong learning. Friday afternoon didactics have many components including:
- Subspecialist lectures
- Resident-led “Ask the Expert” case lectures
- IM leadership and Core Faculty lectures
- Longitudinal Community Outreach lecture series
- Resident-led Morbidity and Mortality case presentations
- Resident-led; faculty-supported Journal Club
Longitudinal POCUS series
In addition to an elective POCUS rotation, a longitudinal POCUS educational series is embedded in our curriculum. Butterfly probes are available at each hospital and in the clinic for residents who become facile with POCUS.
Longitudinal Simulation Lab series
Harnett Health’s Internal Medicine program utilizes Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine’s 9,000 sq. ft. simulation center and simulation buses to provide its residents opportunities to perfect their procedural skills and code blue leadership skills.
UWorld/TrueLearn
All residents are offered a personal digital subscription to UWorld or TrueLearn to prepare for their third USMLE or COMLEX exam.
