National Cancer Survivors Day Picnic
This event is held the first Sunday in June to celebrate cancer survivors nationwide. A complementary picnic lunch is held on the front lawn of Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for all cancer survivors and their families. The picnic begins at 1 p.m. For more information, call (910) 615-6791.

Camp Rockfish Cancer Retreat
Each fall, the Cancer Center and Friends of the Cancer Center sponsor a retreat at the Rockfish Outdoor Center (Camp Rockfish) in Parkton. Past and present adult cancer patients and their spouses are invited for fellowship and fun, and activities usually include arts and crafts, musical entertainment and lively workshops.

Each camper or staff member decorates one square of a quilt. After camp, the squares are sewn together to form a beautiful patchwork quilt. The current quilt hangs in the Friends of the Cancer Center lounge. Past quilts can be seen adorning the walls throughout the Cancer Center. Campers may stay overnight in the comfortable rooms at the Berglund Adult Retreat Center, located on the grounds of the Rockfish Outdoor Center. Accommodations include motel-like rooms with a queen size bed, single bed and private bath.

Registration forms are usually available in the summer from the staff in Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology, as well as from the Cancer Center social workers. For more information or to have a registration form mailed to you, please call (910) 615-6791.

Cancer patients and their families and friends are invited to the annual Celebrate Life Picnic, held each fall at the Rockfish Outdoor Center. The day begins with a Kids Carnival, featuring animals, games, face painting and a cupcake walk. The Celebrate Life Picnic usually lasts from noon until 2 p.m. For more information, call (910) 615-6791.

Ribbon Walk
In the fall, the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center join forces to host the fundraising Ribbon Walk For Cancer. This year, the walk hosted more than 600 walkers and raised more than $65,000 to benefit cancer patients in our area.

The next walk will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Festival Park in downtown Fayetteville. Registration begins at 9 a.m. The walk begins at 10 a.m.
