Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Caduceus Society recognized some of the health system’s top providers Wednesday during the 2026 Doctors’ Day celebration hosted by Medical Staff Services at the Center for Medical Education and Neuroscience Institute.
Each year, the Provider of the Year awards honor a physician, resident and advanced practice provider who go above and beyond in caring for patients, supporting colleagues and living out Cape Fear Valley Health’s values.
The 2026 honorees are:
• Physician of the Year: Istvan Pataki, MD
• Advanced Practice Clinicians of the Year: Justin Adams, PA-C
• Resident of the Year: Megan Serrao, DO
The awards recognize providers who demonstrate compassion, teamwork, integrity, innovation and a strong commitment to patient-centered care.
“The work our providers do reaches far beyond the walls of our hospitals and clinics,” said Dr. Sam Fleishman, Chief Medical Officer at Cape Fear Valley Health. “When physicians, residents and advanced practice clinicians go above and beyond, it strengthens trust in our health system and improves the health of the communities we serve. Dr. Pataki, Justin Adams and Dr. Serrao each carry the values of Cape Fear Valley Health in the way they care for patients and support those around them.”
Recipients are selected based on nominations from peers and colleagues who share how each honoree has made an impact through their work, leadership and commitment to excellence.
Annual winners are recognized during the Doctors’ Day celebration and receive $500 in professional conference support.
