Inpatient Rehab Services

At Bladen County Hospital we offer acute care physical and occupational therapy. Our team assists in the care of hospitalized patients who needs rehab before returning home.

Our treatment areas include:

  • Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Diseases
  • Neurological Diseases & Disorders
  • Post-surgical Care
  • Fracture/Trauma/Orthopedic Care
  • General Debility

Therapists work with patients to promote safe ambulation, proper use of assistive devices and adaptive equipment, stair training, balance strategies, range of motion and strengthening exercises, self-care and home management strategies, as well as providing patients and family members with appropriate education.

Swing Bed Program

Bladen County Hospital offers a Swing Bed Program for patients who have been hospitalized for surgery or recovery from an illness that aren’t quite ready to return home.

The Swing Bed Program allows us to provide short-term skilled nursing care and/or rehabilitation in Cape Fear Valley’s Bladen County Hospital. You’ll be able recover and receive any rehabilitation services you may need before returning home.

For your stay to be covered by Medicare’s swing bed program under the “Skilled Nursing Facility” benefit, you have to meet certain criteria. This criteria includes:

  • Swing bed stay must be related to a hospital stay.
  • The doctor must determine a need for daily skilled care, such as IV therapy, skin and wound care, physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy.
  • Patient must be willing to participate in the daily skilled care.
  • Patient must be hospitalized as an Acute Care Patient for a minimum of three consecutive days prior to admission as a swing bed patient. Prior stay can be at any acute care hospital. Observation days do not count toward these days. They must be within 30 days of the hospital stay.
  • Medicare patients must have Part A benefits.

Medicare will cover up to 20 days in full and up to an additional 80 days with a patient copay, as long as this criteria are met. Medicare supplements will usually pay the deductible as long as Medicare continues coverage. Your individual coverage will depend on how long you meet the criteria. The average length of stay in a swing bed is about 15 days.

Outpatient Rehab Services (Fitness Center)

The physical and occupational therapy departments at the Fitness Center provide therapy services independent of the Fitness Center. Because the Physical and Occupational Therapy Department is located within the fitness facility, our members can receive therapy that is ‘close to home.’ We can also assist our patients with transitioning into a fitness program following completion of therapy.

Our outpatient clinic sees a high volume of patients with chronic pain and we can effectively help these patients. We offer patients therapy in the fitness pool when their conditions prevent pain free therapy in a land-based setting.

Our clinic boasts an experienced Occupational Therapist, who is able to manage patients with shoulder, wrist and hand problems.

Our Outpatient Rehab Team specializes in the management of:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Preoperative and post-operative knee replacements
  • Preoperative and post-operative hip replacements
  • Post-operative shoulder surgery
  • Hand Injuries
  • Functional retraining following hand surgery
  • Complex sports injuries
  • Dysfunctional correction prior to “Transitional Fitness Management”
  • Final stage of rehabilitation following a stroke
  • Reconditioning for work reintegration
  • Postural correction and ergonomic training
  • Muscle pain

We are located on 1001 Broad Street in Elizabethtown. For more information, please call (910) 862-4042.
