Cape Fear Valley Health has named Sonja McLendon, MBA, MEd, FACHE, as President of Highsmith-Rainey Hospital and Vice President of Cape Fear Valley Rehabilitation Center.

McLendon is an experienced health care executive with extensive expertise in hospital operations, quality improvement and rural health care leadership. She joined Cape Fear Valley Health in 2024 and currently serves as President of Hoke Healthcare, a role she will continue while assuming her expanded leadership responsibilities.

Before joining Cape Fear Valley Health, McLendon held senior leadership positions with several health systems, most recently serving as Chief of Operational Excellence at Northeast Georgia Health System.

During her tenure at Hoke Healthcare, McLendon has focused on expanding specialty services closer to home, improving patient safety and quality, strengthening community partnerships, and enhancing operational excellence and the patient experience. Under her leadership, Hoke Healthcare has earned national recognition for patient safety and quality, including high ratings from The Leapfrog Group.

In her expanded role, McLendon will bring her leadership experience and commitment to excellence to the teams at Highsmith-Rainey Hospital and Cape Fear Valley Rehabilitation Center.
