The Kiwanis Club of Lillington has pledged $5,000 in support of the development of Cape Fear Valley Harnett Healthcare’s new Dorothea Dix Adolescent Care. The 16-bed behavioral health inpatient facility for youth ages 12 to 17 is scheduled to open in early 2026 on the campus of Central Harnett Hospital.

The donation was recently announced during a special luncheon and tour hosted by President of Harnett Healthcare Mike Tart and Executive Director of the Harnett Health Foundation Scott Childers at the newly opened Health Pavilion Lillington. In recognition of the contribution, the Visitor Waiting Area at Dorothea Dix Adolescent Care will be named in honor of the Kiwanis Club of Lillington.

“We are extremely pleased that the Kiwanis Club of Lillington found us worthy of their wonderful support,” said Childers. “Their gift to Dorothea Dix Adolescent Care underpins their continued commitment to helping our youth and for that, we are most grateful.”

Dorothea Dix Adolescent Care is being built with support from an $8 million investment by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The facility will carry the name of Dorothea Dix, a pioneering advocate for mental health care in North Carolina, and will serve as a critical resource for adolescents struggling with mental health challenges. The facility will mirror one Cape Fear Valley Health opened in Fayetteville in 2022.
