About Frank Lodeserto, MD
Dr. Frank J. Lodeserto joined Cape Fear Valley Medical Center as the Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency in May 2022. He is one of only a few physicians in the country who are dual fellowship-trained in both Adult and Pediatric Critical Care, practicing across both specialties.
Dr. Lodeserto completed his combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency at East Carolina University/Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina. He went on to pursue dual fellowships in Adult Critical Care Medicine and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and The Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, respectively.
A passionate educator, Dr. Lodeserto is deeply committed to resident education. In addition to his regular bedside teaching and classroom instruction, he leads high-fidelity simulation training to enhance critical thinking and clinical decision-making. He is also an active contributor to Free Open Access Medical Education (FOAMed), serving as an Associate Editor and author for www.rebelem.com, where he publishes evidence-based articles on adult and pediatric critical care topics. Dr. Lodeserto plays a vital role in mentoring residents, guiding them toward their academic, clinical, and professional goals. He brings both compassion and excellence to medical education, rooted in his core values of faith and family.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Lodeserto enjoys spending time with his wife Michelle, a Certified Child Life Specialist and Pure Barre Instructor, and their three children—Natalia, Theadora, and Josiah. Most weekends, you’ll find him cheering from the sidelines at soccer matches or track and field meets. A proud University of Michigan alumnus, he is also a former team captain and All-American wrestler for the Wolverines.
