About James Cappola III, MD
Dr. Cappola is Interim Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs and Chair and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM). He joined the CUSOM faculty as chair in 2018. He is board-certified in internal medicine.
Dr. Cappola grew up in Park Ridge, New Jersey. He received his undergraduate degree at Duke University in 1990. He received his medical degree at the University of Rochester in 1994 and completed a residency in primary care internal medicine at the University of Rochester in 1997. Prior to joining the Campbell faculty, he worked in primary care internal medicine and hospital medicine in the Wake Med system for 21 years.
He was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2016.
He has been in clinical practice for 28 years which has included primary care and hospital medicine. Over this time, he has taught medical students, physician assistant students, nurse practitioner students, nursing students, pharmacy students as well as practicing physicians through continuing medical education.
His current clinical work includes precepting Harnett Health Internal Medicine residents and students in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
He and his wife, Linda, have five children.
