PGY1 Community-Based Residency

Research

Scholarship is a key component of the PGY1 Community Residency program. The resident will be expected to complete one traditional residency research project during the year. The residency program directors and other preceptors will meet with the residents during the residency orientation to discuss the research project and develop initial ideas for projects. Upon identification of a project, the residents will be assigned a research team, consisting of various residency preceptors, to work with throughout the longitudinal project. The resident will be given a basic timeline to follow for project completion. The resident and the assigned research team will further develop a project-specific timeline of events and deadlines for the project. The resident will present the project proposal to the Cape Fear Valley Institutional Review Board (IRB) for approval and will present the results at a regional residency conference in the spring of the residency year. The resident will be required to complete a manuscript of publication quality as part of their research learning experience.
