Critical Access Hospital

Bladen County Hospital is a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital. We offer emergency services and inpatient and outpatient surgical services. For inpatient services, we have a medical/telemetry unit, an ICU as well as a swing bed program.

Emergency Services

High energy, quick thinking and excellent assessment skills are what we look for in the nurses who join our Emergency Department. This dynamic division treats an average of 14,500 patients annually.

Candidates: In addition to an intensive clinical orientation, nurses are to complete training in ACLS, PALS, Stroke Team Education, NIHSS training and several other programs that are unique to the emergency nursing environment. Certification is encouraged. Previous ICU, Emergency Dept experience and/or 1-year Acute Care experience preferred. Willing to float to other units.

Medical Surgical Telemetry/ICU

Our patient population consists of young adult patients to geriatric patients with a wide variety of diagnoses. Our unit provides care for telemetry patients to deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients on our unit in a safe and proficient manner according to the individual patient needs. Our unit also offers a Swing Bed program to assist patients to complete short term rehabilitation close to home. Our ICU patient population consists of critical conditions with a need for constant monitoring and care coupled with traditional nursing duties.

Candidates: Our nurses in both departments work with sophisticated equipment, so they must be proficient in using technology and interpreting data. Good interpersonal skills are a must. The nurse needs to be able to communicate with their patients and families regarding their condition while being sensitive to their needs and ready to ease their concerns. All nurses must have or obtain certifications in BLS and ACLS and other programs unique to the clinical setting.

Surgical Services

Provides care to patients for surgical specialties including general, gynecological, ophthalmology and podiatry. The staff are responsible for care of patients during Pre-Anesthesia Testing, Pre-Op, Intra-Op, Post-op, and Phase II recovery. The staff also provide care to patients receiving outpatient treatments through our Infusion Injection Clinic that operates within the surgical services unit.

Candidates: At least one year of Operating Room experience preferred. Must have or obtain certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
