Friends of the
Cancer Center
Friends
of the Cancer Center of Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation was
organized in 1988 with the single purpose of providing the
support that helps cancer patients and their families cope.
Today, there are more than 50 volunteers working with cancer
patients.
Friends
of the Cancer Center volunteers are ordinary people from all
walks of life who have a strong interest in volunteering their
time to work with cancer patients and their families. Many of
them have been touched by cancer in some way. Some are cancer
survivors; others have had a loved one with cancer and have been
profoundly affected by the experience.
Friends
of the Cancer Center volunteers sponsor a variety of programs
that can make a real difference in a cancer patient’s
adjustment to his or her disease.
Emotional Support
Friends of the Cancer Center volunteers provide a friendly ear
and support, easing the burden that patients and family members
can sometimes feel when coping with cancer.
When patients don’t want to burden their families, it’s nice
to know they can talk with a friendly volunteer who knows
firsthand the pain, suffering and heartbreak cancer can bring.
They are available to talk to patients in the lounge or the
restful courtyard.
Special Needs Assistance
Medical insurance may cover most of the cost of cancer
treatment, but there are many necessities that the patient
usually must pay for out of pocket, such as some medications and
nutritional supplements prescribed to help cancer patients
maintain their strength during treatment. In addition, some
patients need assistance with transportation, wigs, prostheses
and other needs.
Donation Information
Friends of the Cancer Center of Cape Fear Valley Health
Foundation receives almost all its financial support from
organizations and individual donations. All donations are tax
deductible.
Memorial gifts are a wonderful way to pay tribute to a loved
one. Honorariums help commemorate a special milestone in a loved
one’s life, such as a graduation, birth, anniversary or
birthday. Planned giving enables you to include Friends of the
Cancer Center in your will. Your attorney can assist you with
this endeavor.
