Hugh Bryan, M.D.
A native of Lenoir County, Dr. Bryan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1965 and his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1969.
Dr. Bryan completed a residency in Pediatrics at North Carolina Memorial Hospital. From 1971 to 1973, he was Clinical Associate in the Medical Oncology Branch at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md. He completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in 1974.
From 1974 to 1978, Dr. Bryan was Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He returned for a residency in Radiation Therapy at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Penn., completing it in 1980. From 1980 to 1982, Dr. Bryan was Assistant Professor of Radiation Therapy at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and was affiliated with the Fox Chase Cancer Institute at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Bryan returned to his North Carolina roots in 1982 and started the Radiation Oncology Department at Cape Fear Valley. Finally patients were able to receive complete cancer care in their home community. No longer did they have to drive the 90-minute drive to Duke Medical Center or UNC Hospitals.
Dr. Bryan is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the North Carolina Medical Society, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the Southern Medical Association, the Southern Association for Oncology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Alpha Omega Alpha.
He is Medical Director of the Radiation Oncology Department, and is board certified in Radiation Oncology, Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, and Pediatrics.
