Cape Fear Valley Children's Emergency Department
At Cape Fear Valley Medical Center’s Children’s Emergency Department, children come first, and that priority is reflected in everything from the décor to the specially-trained staff.
Parents and children enter the Children’s Emergency Department through a separate entrance to the left of Cape Fear Valley Medical Center’s adult emergency department. On the floor, colorful animal tracks – ducks’ feet, bear paw prints and deer hoof prints – lead the way to the 17 private rooms. The animal theme continues with paw prints on the ceiling tiles and and friendly privacy curtains covering the glass doors. Each room has a soothing mural on the wall as a focal point and a flat-screen television showing popular children’s programming.
The physicians who care for the children in the Children’s Emergency Department all have residency training in pediatrics and experience caring for children in an emergency setting. The special focus of the pediatric emergency medicine physician tends to lead to less pain and distress for the child, fewer tests and a better family focus.
