Cape Fear Valley offers the community's only civilian inpatient pediatric unit, the Children's Center. This 24-bed facility is decorated with a child-friendly "Jungle Safari" theme to make children as comfortable as possible. Our treatment room even features a mural with animals that look like they walked straight out of the jungle and a hippo-shaped treatment table. There is a Pediatric Playroom with various toys and activities for children of all ages.
Some of our private rooms contain fold-out "Murphy" beds, and parents are invited to stay with their children to make their stay more pleasant.
Each of our staff members has been specifically trained to meet the needs of children and to provide quality and compassionate medical care. Pediatric Case Managers are available to provide emotional support to the child and family. Our Coordination of Care staff also works with the school system to help your child stay up-to-date with his or her school work while in the hospital.
Patients range from observation status to those with long-term chronic illnesses. The Children's Center includes a five-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for critically ill children and those at risk for life-threatening events.
Cape Fear Valley Medical Center’s Emergency Department, one of the busiest in the state, includes a dedicated Children’s Emergency Department staffed by physicians and nurses who specialize in the care and treatment of children.
