Depression During Pregnancy

Women who have a history of depression are five (5) times more likely to have a recurrence of symptoms during their pregnancy

Risk factors for experiencing depression during pregnancy include women who are:

Unmarried

Unemployed

In poor health

 Many women who experience depression during their pregnancy are never screened nor treated

Screening is important as it may prevent future episodes of depression

Not treating depression during pregnancy may result in:

Preeclampsia

Premature delivery

Low birthweight infant

Women who experience depression during their pregnancy are more likely to experience postpartum depression
