Critical Need For Type O Negative Blood

1/24/2019

FAYETTEVILLE – The Blood Donor Center is in urgent need of type O negative blood due to critically low supply levels.

The center currently has less than a day’s supply of type O negative blood. Type O negative blood is the universal blood type and can be given to any patient.

Babies in the neonatal intensive care unit and trauma patients can only receive type O negative blood. A single trauma patient can deplete the center’s on-hand supply.

Blood donated to the center stays in the community and helps save lives locally in Bladen, Cumberland, Harnett and Hoke Counties.

The Blood Donor Center is located at 3357 Village Drive, Suite 150, in Fayetteville and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bloodmobiles will be at the following locations for blood drives this week:

  • fit4life (2803 Ft. Bragg Rd.): Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Valley Auto World (3822 Sycamore Dairy Rd.): Thursday, Jan. 24, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Cape Fear Valley Medical Center (1638 Owen Dr.): Friday, Jan. 25, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Litchfield Realty (581 Executive Place): Friday, Jan. 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
