FAYETTEVILLE – Cape Fear
Valley, Cumberland County Emergency Services, Cumberland County Sheriff’s
Office, Fayetteville Fire Department and Police Department will hold a joint
active shooter exercise this weekend.
The exercise will take place
Sunday, Aug. 26, from 9 – 11 a.m., at Cape Fear Valley Cancer Treatment &
CyberKnife Center. Cape Fear Valley visitors and patients will be notified
beforehand. The Cancer Center is closed on weekends, so the exercise will not
interfere with patient care.
Officials are holding the
exercise to test the “Community Active Shooter Response Plan,” a joint policy
between public safety agencies in Fayetteville and Cumberland County. The plan
established standardized guidelines for operating at incidents with potential
or ongoing active violence.
Media wanting to attend the
training session should contact Donnie Byers, Cape Fear Valley Public Relations
Director, at (910) 615-6445 or dbyers@capefearvalley.com.
