Cape Fear Valley Receives STEMI Award

6/11/2018

FAYETTEVILLE - Cape Fear Valley Medical Center has received the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center Gold Plus Award for implementing specific quality measures to help treat heart attack patients.

More than 250,000 people a year suffer an ST-elevated myocardial infarction, the deadliest type of heart attack. The attacks are caused by blood blockages to the heart. Restoring blood flow as quickly as possible is vital, either by mechanically opening blocked vessels or providing clot-busting medication.

Mission Lifeline's goal is to reduce system barriers to prompt treatment, from 911 calls to hospital treatment. Cape Fear Valley Medical Center was recognized for having an 85 percent adherence rate and maintaining 75 percent or better compliance rate on all Mission: Lifeline Receiving Center quality measures for 24 consecutive months.
