Cape Fear Valley Wins American Heart Association Heart Attack Care Quality Awards

8/3/2020

FAYETTEVILLE – August 3, 2020 - Cape Fear Valley Medical Center has received the Mission Lifeline® Gold Plus STEMI Receiving Center and Gold NSTEMI Quality Achievement awards for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Attack for the treatment of heart attacks.

The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program’s goal is to reduce system barriers to prompt treatment of heart attacks, beginning with 911 calls, to EMS transport, and continuing through hospital treatment and discharge.

STEMI (ST-elevated myocardial infarctions) are the deadliest type of heart attack. NSTEMI (Non ST-elevated myocardial infarctions) are less serious forms of heart attack, which usually include partial or temporary coronary artery blockages.

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center earned its Gold Plus STEMI and Gold NSTEMI awards by meeting specific criteria and standards of performance for the quick and appropriate treatment of heart attack patients by providing emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries when needed.
