Hoke Hospital Receives 5-Star Patient Experience Rating

8/14/2020

RAEFORD – August 14, 2020

Cape Fear Valley Hoke Hospital has earned a five-star rating from the federal government for Patient Experience.

The ranking makes Hoke Hospital one of just seven hospitals statewide, and 266 hospitals nationwide, to receive a top rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for 2020. The federal government started using the star-rating system in 2015 to measure Medicare patient experiences with their health plan and healthcare providers.

More than 3,400 hospital nationwide were assessed before CMS released this year’s Patient Experience Survey findings on July 31. Less than 8 percent of all the hospitals achieved five stars for 2020.

Roxie Wells, M.D., Hoke Healthcare President, said Hoke Hospital’s successful journey to five stars was made possible by the organization’s culture and staff.

“When we opened five years ago, we set out to ensure we provided great healthcare to our patients,” she said, “and to do so in a caring and compassionate way. CMS has shared with the nation that we have met our goal.”

CMS bases its rankings on Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Scores (HCAHPS) data pulled from patient satisfaction surveys after the patient is discharged. The survey consists of 27 questions addressing things like care provider communication, pain management and cleanliness of patient rooms.
