Seniors Awarded Partners for Life Scholarships

6/22/2020

FAYETTEVILLE – June 22, 2020 – Cape Fear Valley Health has awarded $500 scholarships to four Cumberland County high school seniors for helping organize school blood drives.

The winners are Elizabeth Buffaloe, Paige Cameron and Davia Rypdahl of Cape Fear High School and Deja Fulton of Southview High School.

Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation and Cape Fear Valley Blood Donor Center partnered to offer the scholarship grants. To qualify, students had to coordinate at least two blood drives with the Blood Donor Center during the school year.

Students also must maintain a 2.5 GPA, be nominated for the scholarship, and have plans to pursue a health science or health occupation degree in college. The scholarship is funded through donations to the Health Foundation.

The Blood Donor Center and Cumberland County Schools have partnered 21 years to hold blood drives under the Partners for Life Program. High school donations provide for half the blood supply at Cape Fear Valley between August and May. The donated blood is used to help Cape Fear Valley Health patients.
