
Cape Fear Valley and UNC Air Care dedicate new helicopter

Cape Fear Valley and UNC Health Care’s Air Care and Ground Transport Services dedicated a new helicopter during an open house ceremony on Friday, June 12, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
UNC Health Care’s Air Care and Ground Transport Services provides two medical transport helicopters to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for 24-hour emergency patient transport to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
The new helicopter is called Tar Heel and replaces a 23-year-old model that is no longer in production. It has state-of-the-art avionics technology and safety features, including live weather radar, terrain obstruction warning system, aircraft traffic warning systems, autopilot function, statewide viper radio system, and the ability to be equipped with a night vision goggle system.
