Cape Fear Valley Diabetes & Endocrine Center Wins State Diabetes Award
The Cape Fear Valley Diabetes & Endocrine Center was honored earlier this month as a Provider of the Year by the N.C. affiliate office of the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
The Abbot Diabetes Care Provider of the Year Award was presented to five diabetes education programs in all during a ceremony in Durham on March 1. The Diabetes & Endocrine Center was recognized for its Diabetes Self Management Training (DMST) program, which educates patients about diabetes and how to manage it better.
The Provider of the Year Award is awarded annually to ADA-recognized education programs that exceed the national standards for providing care to people with diabetes.
The Diabetes & Endocrine Center has been serving residents of Cumberland County and surrounding counties since 2003. John Pasztor, MPH, RD, CDE, the DMST Coordinator, and Oluyemisi Durodoye, M.D., the Senior Endocrinologist, oversee the staff of 15.
Diabetes is the fifth-leading cause of death in North Carolina. About 584,000 in North Carolina have diabetes, with one third living undiagnosed. More than 20,000 Cumberland County residents alone have diabetes.
