Message from the CEO

Welcome

Dear Cape Fear Valley Partner,

On behalf of the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation, I am pleased to announce our 22nd annual Friends of Children Golf and Tennis Classic. Thanks to the combined generosity of many businesses and individuals, this event continues to be a huge success in raising vital funds for the children at Cape Fear Valley Health. We continue to have an immeasurable appreciation for those who help us as we help others!

Proceeds from the 22nd Annual Friends of Children Golf and Tennis Classic will provide a simulation manikin to be used in the training of labor and delivery clinical staff. "Victoria" will allow Cape Fear Valley Heath educators to implement training simulations for triage, team training and hands on performance improvement, which will help to ensure the well-being and safety of both the mother and the newborn. With 5,000 babies born at Cape Fear Valley Health every year, this addition to our training simulation lab will impact many families in our community.

Your donation helps ensure that we are able to provide the best treatment, with the latest high-tech facilities and equipment, at the hands of the most capable physicians and experienced staff. We work hard to ensure quality and compassionate medical care is available for the smallest patients in our health system.

Please contact Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation at 910-615-1449 or tsutherland@capefearvalley.com to reserve your spot today. Once again, thank you for considering our request to sponsor this very worthwhile event.

- CEO, Michael Nagowski

What it's all about

About Golf Classic

In 1991, community leaders and medical professionals recognized that both children and their families are in crisis when their child is ill. As a result, the Friends of Children was created. The organization's primary focus is to enhance pediatric care, help less fortunate children gain access to medicine they need, and to serve as an advocate for sick children and their families.

Legendary golfing instructor, L.B. Floyd, and his wife, Yvonne, joined the cause in 1993 and created the L.B. Floyd Friends of Children Golf Classic. In the years since, the tournament has raised more than $1.4 million, which has helped fund a variety of pediatric programs and needs.

They include purchasing orthopedic surgical instruments, state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit beds, renovations to the Pediatric Emergency Department, and support for pediatric services at the Cape Fear Valley Diabetes and Endocrine Center. Most recently, Friends of Children was able to assist in the renovation of the newest Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in the state of North Carolina, right here at Cape Fear Valley Health.

The tournament's name changed to the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of Children Classic in Memory of L.B. Floyd with the namesake's passing, but the commitment to help hospitalized children and their families remains the same.

On Thursday, September 28, 2017, the legacy continues with the 22nd Annual Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of Children Golf Classic in Memory of L.B. Floyd. The tournament will be at Highland Country Club in Fayetteville, N.C., and the public is invited.

Won't you join us in another opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our community's most precious commodity? To pledge your support today, or to learn more about the tournament, please call the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of Children at (910) 615-1449 or email FriendsofChildren@capefearvalley.com

The course at Highland Country Club was designed by the legendary Donald Ross in 1945. The course was completely renovated last year, providing excellent condition greens for the Friends of Children Golf Classic on Thursday, September 28, 2017. The refreshed course includes a newer variety of bentgrass supported by USGA soils, drainage and subsurface design. The reshaping and contouring to original size has recaptured the original Donald Ross design.

All of the greens have experienced an entire transformation and have been rebuilt to USGA specifications. These new greens have been seeded with newer bentgrass blends that are characterized by a deeper green color, higher shot density for superior putting and a higher ability to sustain traffic. This process of restoring the course to its original design has allowed for Highland to continue being the premier golf facility in Cumberland County.
