Friends of the Cancer Center

Fantastic Sams of Hope Mills held multiple fundraisers in October 2012 for breast cancer awareness to benefit Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center.  A donation of $5,000 was presented by (front) Lena Watkins, (2nd row left to right) Angelic Justice, Venessa Martines, Lisa Stalcup (Back row left to right) Sandra Fulcher (owner), Brandi Westenberg, Carolyn Funk, Debbie  Brown and Jonna Longnecker to Tara Brisson Hinton, Friends of the Cancer Center Coordinator. Each month, Friends of the Cancer Center works with the Cape Fear Valley Breast Care Center to provide free mammograms to the uninsured through our Mammography Outreach program.

Friends of CHILDREN
Systel generously donated a computer desk and bookshelf to the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Friends of Children. These furniture items will assist in providing necessary educational materials to families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Cape Fear Valley Health. Friends of CHILDREN
Sweet Frog of Fayetteville graciously donated stuffed animals and many other items to the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Friends of Children. The Sweet Frog mascots visited with the patients in the Children's Center and the Pediatric Emergency Department. In the photo are Rachel Richardson, Friends Coordinator, Cookie and Scoop, Sweet Frog mascots and Jessica Velez, Recreational Therapist for the Children's Center at Cape Fear Valley Health.

The Arts Council of Fayetteville and Cumberland County presented a grant of $5,000 to the Friends of the Cancer Center's Artful Reflections program.  Presenting the grant is William M. Brooks, Jr., Treasurer of The Arts Council's Executive Committee and Board, to Lucy Jones, President of the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Board and Tara Brisson Hinton, Friends of the Cancer Center Coordinator.  Artful Reflections is an art therapy program that allows patients to express their thoughts and emotions through paintings and other art projects.
Friends of CHILDREN
Members of the Junior League of Fayetteville completed one Done-in-a-Day community volunteer activity by donating books to the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of Children. Members devoted their time to collecting books and visiting with the patients in the Children's Center. Those in the photo include Jessica Velez, Recreational Therapist for the Children's center, members of the Junior League of Fayetteville and Rachel Richardson, Friends Coordinator for the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation.

Westover High School's Booster Club event "Shooting in the Pink" honored two breast cancer survivors, while saluting the women of our community who have battled breast cancer.  A donation of $500 was presented to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center. Presenting the donation is Thomas Benson, principal, Stephanie McNeil (honoree), and Greg Johnson.
Friends of CHILDREN
Dawgs Give Back, a community service club for Terry Sanford seniors, collected stuffed animals throughout Terry Sanford High School and donated them to the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Friends of Children. Pictured in the photo are the Teddy Sanford Senior girls that are members of the Dawgs Give Back program with Rachel Richardson, Friends Coordinator for the Foundation.
Friends of the Cancer Center
Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center to Tara Brisson Hinton, Friends of the Cancer Center Coordinator. Funds were raised per vote cast in the quest of Queen of Hearts.  The Queen of Hearts title is awarded to the contestant who receives the most votes (votes are a penny a piece) from students, faculty, and community. The donation is a result of the donations/votes for all the pageant contestants. The Miss Cape Fear High pageant has donated more $3,000 to help cancer patients right here at home through Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center.

The 2012 Cape Fear Valley Health Softball team played in memory of former teammate and colleague, Angel Perez.  Perez lost his battle with cancer earlier this year.  Special editions jerseys were sold and a donation of $2,375 was made to the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center.

Once again, the very generous members of the Fayetteville Regional Association of Realtors collected over 200 stuffed animals at their Annual Association Luncheon and donated them to the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of Children.
