Friends of Children

Logan Byrd has collected stuffed animals for various organizations since she was 8 years old. She is now a senior in high school and continues this project. Logan recently delivered a generous donation of stuffed animals to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of Children. These stuffed animals will be given to children hospitalized at Cape Fear Valley Health to provide comfort during medical procedures. Friends of the Cancer Center

Fayetteville State University First Lady Nancy Anderson, second from right, presents a donation to Friends of the Cancer Center for $2,531 from FSU’s annual Ball in Pink Game held February 15, 2014. The event supports cancer awareness and provides free mammograms through the Cape Fear Valley Breast Care Center and Friends of the Cancer Center. It was organized by Mrs. Anderson with assistance from the FSU Athletic Department and the Division of Student Affairs. Accepting the donation is Tara Brisson Hinton, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Development Coordinator and Coralisa Palmer Matthews, Friends of the Cancer Center Volunteer. Friends of Children

The 15th Annual Heart of Christmas Show featuring Voices of the Heart was held Thanksgiving weekend to benefit abused and ill children in the Fayetteville community. Members of the 2013 Heart of Christmas Show cast and Director Laura Stevens donated a total of $26,500 to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Friends of Children which will benefit pediatric patients receiving care at Cape Fear Valley Health. A portion of this gift will be used to fund the renovation of one pediatric in-patient suite in the Children’s Center and the remainder will be used to support Friends of Children programs and services.

Dr. Howard Loughlin was recently honored by Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation and Friends of Children for his 23 years of service to both organizations. Dr. Loughlin founded Friends of Children in 1991 to advocate for children and their families hospitalized at Cape Fear Valley. Friends of the Cancer Center

The Cumberland County Fair held its annual FAIR Fight against breast cancer day in September at the Crown Coliseum. Presenting a donation of $1,890 to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center is Hubert Bullard, Fair Manager to Angie Syphrit, Cape Fear Valley Breast Care Navigator and Tara Brisson Hinton, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Development Coordinator. Friends of the Cancer Center helps to provide 100% free mammograms for those uninsured that meet the criteria for screenings.

During the month of October, 7 Branch Farm in Lumber Bridge held several events to benefit Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center. Fantastic Sams of Hope Mills held its annual Breast Cancer Awareness event to benefit Friends of the Cancer Center. The staff and volunteers held multiple fundraisers through the month of October with bake sales, t-shirts and motorcycle ride. Highland Learning Center held a bake sale in October for breast cancer awareness to benefit Friends of the Cancer Center. The members of the Fayetteville Regional Association of Realtors collected an outstanding amount of stuffed animals at their Annual Association Luncheon and donated them to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of Children. The Exchange Club of Greater Fayetteville generously donated $400.00 to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of Children. During the 23rd Annual Greek Festival Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church offered coupons for $1 off foods and pastries which provided a donation to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of Children. “Wyatt Gray Dixon celebrated his 1st birthday by collecting toys, books and stuffed animals for the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of Children. The items donated will provide comfort and ease to children receiving treatment throughout the health system. Presenting the donation are Wyatt Gray Dixon and his mother, Mari-Newton Dixon. Friends of the Cancer Center

The first Integral Run for the Pink was held on October 19, 2013 in Hope Mills, NC to help benefit Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center. Presenting a donation of $1,600 is Thomas Jr. Dosier Fayetteville Running Club (FRC) & Carla Brenes, secretary & social media director, Jackie Warner, Mayor of Hope Mills, NC and Julio C Ramirez, President of the Mexican American Association to Tara Brisson Hinton, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Development Coordinator.

Friends of Children
The Girls Scouts of America Troop 1117 personally made and donated blankets to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Friends of Children. These blankets were delivered to patients receiving care in the Children’s Center at Cape Fear Valley Health.
