The BB&T Lighthouse Project offers support through service to the community. A donation was made to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation. Fayetteville BB&T Bank employees created gift baskets for patients being treated in the Cape Fear Valley Cancer Center and families with premature infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Presenting the gift baskets are BB&T market president, William Brooks and Fayetteville BB&T Bank employees. Accepting the donation are Michelle Gereghty, Cancer Center Research Coordinator, Yvonne Johnson, NICU Patient Care Manager and Diana Harris, Women and Children’s Service Line Director.

Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union held its 20th Annual Charity Golf Classic to benefit Victory Junction and Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center. David Elliott, Renee Elliott and Andrew Reiff present a donation of $7,000 to Dr. Bakri, Friends of the Cancer Center Advisory Council member and Tara Brisson Hinton, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Development Coordinator. Donations for the tournament help provide free mammograms to the Cape Fear Valley Breast Care Center.

The Fayetteville Motor Sport Park held its annual charity show and race to benefit Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center.  Dexter Courie presented a donation of $3,300 to Tara Brisson Hinton, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Development Coordinator. The N.C. Medical Society Alliance Health Education Foundation of Cumberland County pledged to sponsor a pediatric room renovation at Cape Fear Valley Health.  Presenting the donation is Muriel Roux and Suzanne Klang of the Alliance to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Executive Director, Sabrina Brooks and Cheryl Norris, a Cape Fear Valley pediatric resource nurse.  The patient rooms in the Children’s Center at Cape Fear Valley are currently undergoing a facelift to include new flooring, wall coverings, cabinetry, doors, windows and bathroom tile and fixtures. The Charmettes of North Carolina Inc. partnered with Cumberland County Schools to create hats, bandanas and pillows. The handmade gifts were donated to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center. South View High School held its annual Kicking for Cancer on February 22 to help benefit Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center. Head soccer coach, Robert Gamble and the South View Girls Soccer team presented a donation of $3,500 to Sherry Jackson, Friends of the Cancer Center Advisory Council member and Tara Brisson Hinton, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Development Coordinator.

The staff at TownPlace Suites by Marriot made fleece blankets through the Corporate Marriot Real Giving program. Logan Byrd has collected stuffed animals for various organizations since she was 8 years old. She is now a senior in high school and continues this project. Logan recently delivered a generous donation of stuffed animals to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of Children. These stuffed animals will be given to children hospitalized at Cape Fear Valley Health to provide comfort during medical procedures. Fayetteville State University First Lady Nancy Anderson, second from right, presents a donation to Friends of the Cancer Center for $2,531 from FSU’s annual Ball in Pink Game held February 15, 2014. The event supports cancer awareness and provides free mammograms through the Cape Fear Valley Breast Care Center and Friends of the Cancer Center. It was organized by Mrs. Anderson with assistance from the FSU Athletic Department and the Division of Student Affairs. The 15th Annual Heart of Christmas Show featuring Voices of the Heart was held Thanksgiving weekend to benefit abused and ill children in the Fayetteville community. Members of the 2013 Heart of Christmas Show cast and Director Laura Stevens donated a total of $26,500 to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Friends of Children which will benefit pediatric patients receiving care at Cape Fear Valley Health. A portion of this gift will be used to fund the renovation of one pediatric in-patient suite in the Children’s Center and the remainder will be used to support Friends of Children programs and services.

Dr. Howard Loughlin was recently honored by Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation and Friends of Children for his 23 years of service to both organizations. Dr. Loughlin founded Friends of Children in 1991 to advocate for children and their families hospitalized at Cape Fear Valley. The Cumberland County Fair held its annual FAIR Fight against breast cancer day in September at the Crown Coliseum. Presenting a donation of $1,890 to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center is Hubert Bullard, Fair Manager to Angie Syphrit, Cape Fear Valley Breast Care Navigator and Tara Brisson Hinton, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Development Coordinator. Friends of the Cancer Center helps to provide 100% free mammograms for those uninsured that meet the criteria for screenings.

During the 23rd Annual Greek Festival Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church offered coupons for $1 off foods and pastries which provided a donation to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of Children. The Girls Scouts of America Troop 1117 personally made and donated blankets to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Friends of Children. These blankets were delivered to patients receiving care in the Children’s Center at Cape Fear Valley Health.
