Estate & Gift Planning

Your legacy starts with a plan

Making a planned gift is a wonderful way to show your support and appreciation for Cape Fear Valley Health and its mission to provide exceptional healthcare to our community - while accommodating your own personal, financial, estate-planning, and philanthropic goals. With smart planning, donors may actually increase the size of their commitment to local healthcare and/or reduce the tax burden on heirs.

When you make a planned gift commitment, you will be recognized as a member of the Legacy Circle, a group of forward-thinking donors who will support Cape Fear Valley's long-term success and be forever remembered. You will also receive a lifetime membership in the Leadership Circle, offering exclusive access to Foundation events, special engagements with hospital leaders, previews of new facilities and services.

Common Gift Planning Tools

Create a will and make a legacy gift We've partnered with FreeWill to provide our supporters with a free online tool to create a legal will. It's an easy way to complete this important task and quickly join the Legacy Circle through the creation of a lasting legacy gift. You can use this resource on its own or use it to document your wishes before finalizing your plans with an attorney. Create your will here.

Have you already included Cape Fear Valley in your estate plans? Please use our legal name Cape Fear Valley Medical Foundation, Inc. (EIN# 56-1947017) and tell us about your gift. We would love to thank you for your generosity and ensure your future gift is used according to your wishes. Fill out this form to let us know!

Plan beneficiary designations Do you have an IRA, 401(k), life-insurance policy, or any other assets not included in your will? These are called non-probate assets and you must plan your beneficiaries for them separately or risk creating undue stress and financial burden for your heirs. Thanks to our partnership with FreeWill, you can easily create a plan for your non-probate assets all in one place. Plan your beneficiary designations here.

Give from your IRA If you’re 70 ½ or older, you’re eligible to create a tax-free gift from your IRA that will support Cape Fear Valley Health and satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD). Contact your IRA administrator and request to make a rollover gift to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation (EIN# 56-1947017). Please alert the Foundation about the forthcoming donation and tell us how to direct your gift, whether to the hospital’s greatest needs or the department/program of your choice.

Donate securities Making a gift of long-term appreciated securities, such as stocks, bonds and mutual funds, can be a great tax-efficient way to support Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation. Gifts of securities may help you avoid capital gains taxes and give you an income tax deduction. To transfer shares, provide our account information to your broker: Cape Fear Valley Medical Foundation (DTC #78692400) at Wells Fargo. After your transfer is complete, please contact the Foundation office to ensure your gift is designated for the appropriate purpose.
