tours, which are offered only on Mondays, are provided free

expectant parents and new mothers?

here to see a list of
the classes available. To register for any of these classes,
please call CareLink at 609-LINK (5465).
I’m
going to give birth at the medical center. How do I
pre-register?
Your
physician should have a copy of the pre-registration form.
Once it is completed, simply mail it back to the Family
Birth Center (address is located on the form).
If
your physician does not have a copy of the form, please come
to the Admitting Desk on the fourth floor of the medical
center. The pre-registration process only takes
approximately ten minutes. For more information, call
609-7944 or 609-7945.
Where
can I find pictures of newborns on your site?
From our main web page, click on web
nursery. This will take you to the Family Birth
Center’s Web Nursery. (A separate company maintains the
web page; if you experience problems, please follow the
links to their customer service page for assistance.)
Please note that a baby’s
photo is posted only if the mother signs a consent form.
Also, due to the volume of photos the company takes
everyday, a photo may take as long as 10 days to be posted.
Blood
Donation
How
can I donate blood?
You
can give the gift of life by attending one of our blood
drives or by calling 609-6300 to make an
appointment.
Please
visit the Blood
Donor Center’s web page for information about their
hours and about specifications that donors must meet.
Why
are some donors being deferred because of international
travel?
Unfortunately,
some very generous blood donors have been told in recent
years that they can no longer give blood. This is the result
of federal guidelines intended to reduce the spread of what
is commonly known as “mad cow” disease.
According
to the guidelines, blood cannot be accepted from persons
who:
- have
traveled to or resided in the United Kingdom for more
than three months between 1980 and 1996;
- were
members of the U.S. military, civilian military
employees or military dependents, stationed for six
months or more from 1980-1990 in Belgium, Germany,
Netherlands, or six months or more from 1980-1996 in
Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Italy, and Greece;
- have
lived in one of 30 European countries for periods
totaling five years or more are not eligible to donate.
As
more becomes known about this devastating disease, these
restrictions may be lifted. In the meantime, deferred donors
may still do their part by encouraging friends and loved
ones to donate.
