Cape Fear Valley Health System provides a CME credit offering called Internet Point of Care (PoC) Learning. In 2006, the AMA introduced guidelines for CME providers to accredit Internet Point of Care (PoC) Learning activities, a new initiative attempting to make continuing medical education directly relevant to improved patient care. The Physician Education Department of Cape Fear Valley Health System is collaborating with North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) to developed an online tool that efficiently captures the essential elements of Internet Point of Care (PoC) Learning documentation. Physicians may earn up to 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ per year by using evidence-based literature to guide patient care. Each time a patient-related topic is researched using an online evidence-based resource, 0.5 credits may be earned. Cape Fear Valley Health System is the first CME provider in North Carolina to internally give AMA credit for Internet Point of Care (PoC) Learning.
For AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, you must use the web-based educational sites that have been approved by the Medical Executive Committee of Cape Fear Valley Health System. If you know of another website that would be a good resource and is free of commercial bias, please contact the Physician Education Department with the information and they will forward it to the Medical Executive Committee for approval.
Earning and tracking CME credit has never been easier at Cape Fear Valley Health System. When addressing a Point of Care (PoC) need, just go to the Physician Education website and click the Point of Care (PoC) link. Using a simple, five-step template with drop-down menus, physicians and practitioners can quickly record Internet Point of Care (PoC) Learning credit. Your pathway to knowledge will be documented automatically and a form will be submitted to the Physician Education Department, where your credits will be recorded in our database.
To obtain your CME credits, use the Physician Education website, complete the form and submit. The Physician Education Department will automatically send you a transcript once a year, the month prior to your birth month. If you need to obtain a transcript of your credits before that time, please contact the Physician Education Department @ 910-609-7038, select function 2 and leave a message. Your transcript will be sent to you within 5 business days.
