Kelli Canady presents toys and videos to Melissa Hamrick, Coordinator of Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Stanton Hospitality House. The items were donated by the students through Vacation Bible School at Haymount United Methodist Church.
Friends of Stanton Hospitality House provides a place of shelter and comfort for families of loved ones undergoing medical treatment at one of the nearby medical facilities. Stanton Hospitality House offers a temporary, affordable home away from home, where the financial and emotional burdens of illness and hospitalization can be lessened. Tonia Collins and staff of Huske Hardware House Restaurant present a check for $1,060 to Deanna Benson-Reed, Coordinator of Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center. The money was raised over Memorial Day week by the staff of Huske Hardware, Sysco, Harris Wholesale and Cumulus Radio in memory of Darlene Jones-Momirovich.

David Elliott, President/CEO of Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union, and his wife, Renee, present a check for $5,000 to Deanna Benson-Reed, Coordinator of Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center, and Jesse Byrd, Friends of the Cancer Center Advisory Board Chairman. The donation is from the 15th Annual Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union Charity Golf Tournament held in May.

Members of NC Chapter of the Charmettes Inc. and students and staff of Cumberland County Schools present 150 bags, turbans and bandanas to Deanna Benson-Reed, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center Coordinator. The items were made by students at three middle schools and two high schools. They will be donated to patients undergoing treatment at The Cancer Center. This is the 4th year the Charmettes and Cumberland County Schools have participated in this program.

Friends of Children makes sure that a child's perspective is never lost in the unfamiliar world of grown-ups and medical equipment. Services include asthma and diabetes education, assistance and meal vouchers for families in extreme need, toys for children in the pediatric playroom, and other items to make a hospital visit or stay less stressful for the parents and the child.
Members of Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of Children Advisory Council present a grant for $20,500 to Tammy Laurence, Executive Director of the Child Advocacy Center. The grant provides funding for the Period of Purple Crying Program at Cape Fear Valley. The program educates all new mothers on preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome.

The donation is in honor of Cindy Bates, a former co-worker. Proceeds will support mammography services through Friends of the Cancer Center. Keller Williams Realty encourages their staff to participate in community projects through Red Day, which stands for Renew, Energize and Donate.

Members of the Zeta Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. present children's books to Marian Morgan, Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of Children Coordinator. The members collected the books as part of the Economic Key to Success Program. The books will be given to hospitalized children at Cape Fear Valley. Mike Nagowski, CEO of Cape Fear Valley Health System, reads to kindergarten and third grade students at the Fayetteville Academy on April 24. Nagowski was the Mystery Reader for the day as part of the Week of the Young Child. Students from the Fayetteville Academy collected items for hospitalize children and presented them to Marian Morgan, Coordinator of Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of Children.
