Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital ICU Wins Hallmark of Healthy Workplaces AwardThe Intensive
Care Unit at Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital is one of three
facilities statewide to have received the Hallmarks of Healthy Workplaces
award from the North Carolina Nurses Association. The
award, presented Friday, April 27, in Winston Salem, is given annually to
workplaces in medical or healthcare facilities that best demonstrate a
commitment to recruiting and retaining nurses. All
entries in this year’s credentialing competition were judged on specific
criteria, including promoting open communication, actions to enhance
nursing care toward patients, and degree of recruitment and retention of
nurses. The
Hallmarks Credentialing Committee cited Highsmith-Rainey’s “just”
culture, team spirit with a family atmosphere, and how the nursing staff
felt toward each other and views toward administration. Highsmith-Rainey
is a 112-bed long-term acute-care hospital and part of 619-bed Cape Fear
Valley Health System. Dona
Caine-Francis, Chair of the NCNA task force that created the program, said
Hallmarks is not a competition. “We
would like every health-related agency to meet the standards and to
receive this recognition,” she said.
