The cornerstone of Cape Fear Valley Hospital was laid in 1954, and the hospital opened in 1956 as a 200-bed county hospital. Having grown to a 765-bed facility, today, Cape Fear Valley is a robust medical center located in the growing metropolitan city of Fayetteville, NC (population 115,603) in Cumberland County (population 319,431). Cape Fear Valley Medical Center specializes in heart care, cancer treatment and surgical services. We have a full-service Risk Labor and Delivery department as well as a Level-III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (UNIT) to care for the tiniest members of our community. We also have "The Children's Center", which shares the floor with our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Cape Fear Valley Health System offers a comprehensive New Graduate Nurse Residency Programs. We offer students high quality instruction in nursing theory and clinical practice. We are committed to provide an opportunity for the new graduate nurses to build a strong acute care foundation and become highly skilled practitioners. In doing so, a great amount of resources are dedicated to this goal. We ask that residents offer an equally high degree of commitment in return. Course Descriptions: Medical Surgical/Progressive Care/Family Center Care/Pediatric Residency are 16 week programs that consist of two weeks of Hospital and Nursing Core Orientation, followed by14 weeks of clinical and classroom experiences designed with the adult learner in mind. Emergency Department/Critical Care Residency are 22 week programs that consist of two weeks of Hospital and Nursing Core Orientation, followed by 20 weeks of clinical and classroom experiences designed with the adult learner in mind. Features for each of the programs include: Evidence-based, structured classes. Classes taught by subject-matter experts. Guided clinical experience; post-clinical round-table discussion with Continuing Education contact hours and a supportive environment. Post-residency follow-up seminars on advanced critical concepts and cutting edge therapies, debriefings and team building experiences. Expectations: To successfully complete this program, the resident is expected to: • Participate in clinical discussion and class presentations • Complete required reading and case studies as assigned• Complete competency checklists through orientation • Attend Mandatory Staff Development Training through first year of employment. Upon acceptance into the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program, the student will be expected to abide by all policies of Cape Fear Valley Health System that are outlined in the Employee Handbook. Specific attention will be paid to tardiness, absenteeism, dress code and guest relations. For the duration of the program, the resident is an employee of Training and Development and the course coordinators will be considered their immediate supervisors. Residents are expected to focus on the requirements of the program. The New Graduate Nurse Residency Programs require a two (2) year work commitment.

Job Summary
Plans and implements professional nursing care for patients in accordance with hospital policies.

Job Qualifications
1. Have current RN license for North Carolina or compact state RN licensure(refer to CFVHS guidelines for Compact Eligibility) 2. Be a RN new graduate with less than 7 months relevant experience or eligible to take the NCLEX.

Hiring for the Winter Cape Fear Valley Nurse Residency Programs for Emergency Department, will begin February 9, 2015 and Maternal/Child (Family Center Care)/ Medical Surgical/Progressive Care(LTAC Stepdown) will begin February 23, 2015.
