Med-Surg Residency

Cape Fear Valley Health offers a comprehensive 14-week Med-Surg Residency designed to facilitate the transition of the new graduate to the role of professional nurse.

The Med-Surg Residency is designed to provide the framework for development of nursing knowledge and clinical skills related to the nursing process, communication, socialization, teamwork, disease processes, patient management across the continuum of care, resource management, legal aspects of care, psychomotor skills, and clinical practice.

The Med-Surg Residency is designed to develop the student both academically and clinically. The fourteen (14)-week program will consist of two (2) weeks of Hospital and Nursing Core Orientation followed by a twelve (12) week combination of didactic and clinical hours. The didactic portion will involve lectures, videos, case studies, as well as essays, research papers and case study presentations.

Program Begin Date: February 13, 2012 with a hire date of January 30, 2012

  • Completed Med-Surg Residency Packet (submit to Human Resources/Nurse Recruitment)
  • Copy of Degree with Associates/Bachelors in Science or Biology

Internal Applicants

  • Complete Employee Transfer Application
  • Updated Resume (submit to Human Resources with Residency Packet)
  • Reference Form Completed by Patient Care Manager (submit to Human Resources with Residency Packet)
  • Completed Med-Surg Residency Packet (submit to Human Resources/Nurse Recruitment)

Eligibility

  • Be a New Graduate with RN license or eligible to take the NCLEX
  • Have current RN license for North Carolina or Compact State RN licensure
